Wet Meadow
We’ve all had to wait for that wet part of our lawn to dry out enough to be able to mow it. Moist soil also makes it difficult to establish traditional lawn grasses, leading to weeds or bare areas. Why not establish a wet meadow? Plants adapted to wet conditions provide striking colors and character all year with no regular management required. The wildflowers used to create wet meadows are also among the most beneficial plants for pollinators like solitary native bees. Many of the wildflowers and graminoids (grasses and grass like plants) that can grow in wet soils are important host plants for moths and butterflies, like swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) and common milkweed (A. syriaca) needed by monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus).
